Through our leaders training weekends and our volunteer leader opportunities during the school holidays we are able provide a place for Godly young people to grow in Christ and excel in leading.
We acknowledge that the kids camp we run would be not be complete without awesome volunteer leaders who love Jesus!
Being a Leader is one of the most exciting things you can do in your holidays. You get to meet new people, hang out with a bunch of energetic kids, learn practical skills that will help advance you in life, and you have the chance to make a positive difference in the lives of others.

- Firstly, you'll need to attend one of our leaders training weekends. Our leaders trainings are run twice a year normally in June & early December. These camps are a great place for you to get to know the camp, staff and other leaders. And its a great opportunity for staff to get to know you too. During the leaders training weekends we do lots of practical training, eat amazing food and just have fun together. We try make the training suitable for every day life as well as for our holiday camps too.
- If there doesn't seem to be a leaders training weekend coming up soon then email us - [email protected] - we may have a leaders hang out or induction day coming up that you could join in with. However, we do prefer you attended a leaders training first.
- Secondly, we'll need you to fill out a "New Leaders Application Form" which we'll send you once you show interest in leading. In the form you'll need to provide some more info about yourself, a form of photo ID and two references.
- If you are 17 years or older we'll also need you to fill out a police vetting form.
- Lastly, once we've received all your details, we'll look over it, call your references and see if you're ready to take on the responsibilities of becoming a volunteer leader at one of our holiday camps. If the staff team think you're ready then you'll be invited to lead at one of our holiday camps most likely as a Leader In Training (LIT). However if you have more maturity and experience then you may be invited as a Cabin leader. If we think you're not quite ready, don't worry, we'll just ask you to attend another one of our leaders training camps before re-assessing your application. Find out more about the two leader roles below.

MiCamp Taupo and Whakamaru are OSCAR (Out of School Care and Recreation) approved by Ministry of Social Development. This means parents can apply for funding to send their kids to camp. With this awesome opportunity we have some high standards that Camp Staff AND volunteers (including leaders) need to meet. If you've never worked with an OSCAR approved program before (or forgot what OSCAR standards are) have a look at our OSCAR policies and procedures which and in the second half of the leaders manual (download a copy below).
If you are over 17 years of age you need to be Police Vetted as part of OSCAR requirements. You will be sent a vetting form if you register for camp and have not been vetted previously. Please return this as soon as possible, as Police Vetting takes some time. With the new Police Vetting standards, applicants will now need provide sighted copies of two forms of ID, one of which must be photographic.
