In 2007, Lake Taupo Christian Camp took over an existing campsite in Kakahi called Youth Haven and renamed it Ruapehu Christian Camp. The camp had originally been established by several families, together with the Taumarunui and Owhango Assemblies, to provide a camping facility for Christian youth.
Under the guidance of the Lake Taupo camp staff and management, the camp was gradually upgraded and has since served communities across New Zealand. In 2013, as part of the wider rebranding, the camp was renamed MiCamp Ruapehu.
