Information for Parents
At MiCamp we understand that it’s a big step sending your child to camp for a week in the school holidays. We want to help ease your concerns and help you in making an informed decision before sending your child to camp.
A Day at CampCamp is a great place for kids to learn life skills, and kick start their independence. Every camp is different, providing all sorts of fun activities and challenges, with leaders who each bring their own creative flair and energy to camp life.

HomesicknessWhether it’s your child’s first time away from home, or they’ve been to camp many times before, being away for a week can still be a big step. A mix of excitement and nerves is completely normal, and homesickness can sometimes be part of settling in.

Serving the Community
Our holiday camps are run with a heart to serve children, creating a space that is safe, joyful, and meaningful. We aim to keep our fees as affordable as possible so more families can experience camp. The fee for camp includes 4 nights of accommodation, meals, snacks and activities, everything needed for your child to have an epic week with MiCamp.
OSCAR Approved Camp
We aim for our camps to be accessible to people from all over the local areas, which is why both our campsites are OSCAR approved.
Out of School Care and Recreation (OSCAR) is currently run by the Ministry of Social Development. It is a government-run system that creates a standard of child-care that is consistent across New Zealand for all participants.
Each campsite has strict policies and procedures for child safety that are put into practice by every staff member, leader and helpers. OSCAR provides subsidies, which means parents can apply for funding to send their kids to camp! Additionally, if you are not eligible through OSCAR, we have relationships with several different agencies that can help provide financial assistance as well.

Applying for OSCAR Funding
If you have never been subsidised by OSCAR before and think you may be eligible (you can get an idea here) you can start by making an appointment with your local WINZ office's Child Care supervisor. They can advise you as to how much you may be eligible for.
After confirming your eligibility, simply fill out the application form and send it when you register your child for camp indicating that you are sponsored. MiCamp will complete our part of the form and return it to you by email. You can then make another appointment with WINZ for camp-by-camp approval.
Once approved, your child is all set for an amazing week at camp during their school holidays!
