LITS (LEADERS IN TRAINING)
What: We have a LIT program at either one or both camps in the school holidays. The LIT program is for those who are starting on their leadership journey. This includes in-camp experience (you are in a cabin with other leaders looking after a group of kids,) and training sessions in the afternoons during kids' camps. Who: For around the ages of 13 -16. It's up to the staff discretion as where leaders get placed Cost: LIT's are asked to pay a small fee when coming to a holiday camp to help cover their food cost. |
CABIN LEADER
What: A cabin leader is someone who is responsible for a cabin of 8-10 campers aged between 8-12 yrs old. They are responsible for looking after the campers needs, making sure they're getting to activities on time and being a great role-model plus more! Who: Generally, cabin leaders a 16 yrs or older. However, it's up to staff discretion as to whether the leader is appropriate for this role or not. Cost: We ask (but is not required) that cabin leader donate a chosen amount towards their food cost for the week. |
Being an OSCAR approved camp
MiCamp Taupo and Whakamaru are OSCAR (Out of School Care and Recreation) approved by Ministry of Social Development. This means parents can apply for funding to send their kids to camp. With this awesome opportunity we have some high standards that Camp Staff AND volunteers (including leaders) need to meet. Have a look at our OSCAR policies and procedures which is in the second half of the leader's manual (download a copy below).
If you are over 14 years of age you need to be Police Vetted as part of OSCAR requirements. You will be sent a vetting form if you register for camp and have not been vetted previously. Please return this as soon as possible, as Police Vetting takes some time to process. With the new Police Vetting standards, applicants will now need provide sighted copies of two forms of ID, one of which must be photographic.
